Glasses and Fog

Glasses, the ones you look through vs. the ones you drink out of can be, well, frustrating! Yep, there is a story here although maybe not an interesting one…

I finally purchased a new pair of glasses the other week and they arrived at the gleasses store yesterday. My old glasses were in terrible shape. Something had got on them ages ago and ate away some of the coating so there was a constant blur on the lenses that would never come clean. I was in a fog (and not just my usual fog). I had gotten a new perscription a year or so ago but had decided to try contacts again instead of glasses thus the reason for not getting glasses.

Here’s the problem, my eyes still dry out with contacts after a few days so it gets uncomfortable wearing them longer than that without a break. Thus the need for glasses again.

Anyway, back to the new glasses that you are all wondering about! I picked them up yesterday and it was amazing! I could see! Brighter colors, brighter light, brighter everything! I could even read my iPhone again without having to look over or under my glasses while holding it a couple inches from my face! I was, to say the least, estatic! WIth these results I was really looking forward to working on the computer today and being able to actually see what I was working on!
Well… Dang it… Goobers… Bummer…

It seems that with my eyesight being so bad (THICK glasses – ok, not THAT bad), there are “sweet spots” I need to look through to see the computer well. If I look outside of those areas, things can blur up very nicely. The fog returns! Very, very frustrating! I’ve had to train myself to move my head, not my eyes. I’ve slowly adjusted but it is still a pain.

That leads me to, well, facing the fact that I may have to look at getting specific glasses for semi close range activity, which sucks, or wearing contacts (with reading glasses) more often (the best view but with burning eyes) or just live with it like I did with my old glasses. At least the “sweet spots” no longer have bured areas on them so that’s a plus and the “sweet spots” are larger but different.

The moral of the story, if you have good eyesite, value it very, very highly and never take it for granted. When or if it disapears, it really bites. To say the least…

  1. Glasses can be a real peon, especially for us older folks who have to have them. But then again, maybe it’s a sign that computer work should maybe be secondary and another career might be beneficial?
